I know I said I was done responding, but apparently I lied.

Then we disagree on what the actual problem is. Somehow, 3.7 million articles
were created using the current "wonky" system, nearly 20,000 of which are GA or
better. Do you think that all we need to do to increase the quality of new
articles is just punch up the interface a bit? If you really believe that the
problem will be solved by adding big red and blue buttons to the article
creation page, then I fear that the WMF is completely out of touch with the
project they've been tasked with managing.

The mediawiki workpage suffers from similar delusions, as evidenced by
statements such as "Users who wish to create new pages are usually confused.
The process of creating a new page is poorly understood, poorly explained, and
more often than not is user-hostile." There is no evidence to support these
statements, and furthermore, writing an encyclopedia article should necessarily
be more difficult than posting your baseball card collection on eBay. In my
opinion, it would be a mistake to devote resources to simplifying the editing
interface so that more 12-year-olds and uneducated people are encouraged to
create new articles. Wikipedia is an academic endeavor, not a social
networking site. See [[en:WP:COMPETENCE]]. If you can't figure out how to
write a new article, then perhaps you shouldn't.

In my opinion (and the opinions of 400-500 other editors), your current efforts
are a step in the wrong direction, but I'm just a volunteer editor and it's now
clear that our opinions don't make much of a difference. I consider the WMF's
response to this entire situation as anything but a win.
