Hi Leo, You're absolutely right that there are issues with cultural sensitivity....
I think what is important ...that people are trying to help...and quite naturally, they use their own cultural style.... That is another reason why I think it is a good idea to get students involved in learning on WikiEd ~ because they will be able to provide examples of culturally-sensitive materials that work for them!... in a way that I or Leigh or Mike might never know about.... In the face of this challenge, there's an opportunity.... - Randy 2008/6/18 Wong Leo <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > Dear All , > > I am wondering abt one thing on E-learning and coolaboration building the > courses , most of web2.0 tools are built by western people or company ( am I > right ? and WE is surely more internaational ) > > so how abt the cultural senstivity issue ? do you think it will not value > the student their own culture background and make people all become the same > or simliar by using these E-learning tools or platforms , > > I know we have something called " re-use " or re-create but again , I am a > little bit concerned about the cultural discrimination and the effects on my > students . > > China has already becoming very westernised by KFC or Macdonald , > > One project in Taiwan called OOPS translating MIT courses even make this > worse by talking about translation , it is good to learn from each other , > but it is not fun to become one alike each other . > > Last year one of my classroom projects my students are making some web2.0 > slides , I sent it to Leigh and Mike and James ( did I send it to you ?) but > they turned out to be very western feeling , > > I would like to hear about your suggestions or ideas , thank you > > Leo > > -- > blog:http://leolaoshi.yo2.cn > HELP项目https://groups.google.com/group/helpelephantsliveproject > > > -- ________________ Randy Fisher - Facilitating Change, Connections and Collaboration to Improve Performance. * Engaging People in Teams, Communities and Organizations....and WikiEducator! + 1 604.684.2275 [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.wikieducator.org www.wikieducator.org/User:Randyfisher Skype: wikirandy --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "WikiEducator" group.
