I hear this argument often.
Maybe when chalk boards came in there was a word for it because they needed
it. I don't see (yet) that we are ready for doing away with the e. At
times we struggle to find terms to describe the other contexts and
parameters:

blended
F2F
distance
flexible
e
intensive/residential (local concepts for us)
mixed mode
online
synchronous
correspondence
print based
internet enhanced
lecture based
problem based
group based
workshop/seminar
CAL
CAI
Keller plan

Of course it is the learning that matters.

Last week a friend was grumbling because they gave him a (high tech
enhanced) room and did not say "You need to book separately a document
camera". Maybe he should have said he wanted to do some "DC-teaching".

I do not believe e is "just a tool". It is a mindset as well. It is an
environment. For some of us we are like fish: the water just 'is'.
In the world of learning the e just 'is'.
For many (most?) this is far from true. Yesterday someone phoned and said
"Moodle is not working". What they meant is "I can't access the internet".
Language concept confusion, a person in an e-world without an e-brain.
