Copying and pasting what I wrote on that patchset "For the record, I'm happy to +2 this if necessary but I still feel this is a short term crappy solution that doesn't truly promote unfree fonts as claimed in the commit message (since we are basically saying in this give non-free Helvetica for Mac users, Arial for Windows users [1]) and I'd welcome conversation around finding a suitable open font to make this more explicit and building a font stack that is language dependent.

This new patch from Odder doesn't truly achieve supporting open fonts so in my opinion is no different from the existing state of things apart from leaving things more up to chance.
