Bob. You may need to flash the firmware in the DVR-108BK and the Lite-On CDRW and update and patch Nero Ultra Edition to version 6.6.0.8a which is the newest version. But since you didn't state which version of Nero you currently have I'll point you to your other choices here below:
Nero 6.6.0.8a Ultra Edition update: http://ww2.nero.com/us/nero-up.php Free Nero Please Note: The software packages of this version are NOT compatible to the new Nero 6 Ultra Editon Update - Version 6.6 http://ww2.nero.com/us/nero6_3.html Nero Burning ROM 5.5 http://ww2.nero.com/us/Update_Nero_Burning_ROM.html Pioneer DVR 109BK firmware update: http://www.pioneerusa.com/pna/article/0,,2076_4273_128163990,00.html To answer your last two questions you already have Nero which is IMHO the best burning CD/DVD authoring package around so you have the best there is here. ;) As for Windows XP Built-in CD/DVD packet writting its very limited so Nero fits the bill perfectly in this case. Just follow the on screen instructions for the Pioneer firmware update and durring the update process it will advise you to not turn off you PC while the flash firmware update takes place. After its finished you must reboot the PC for the change to take effect. I would update the Pioneer DVD drive firmware first, reboot, then update and patch Nero 5.5, reboot. That was good stuff! Now I have a problem with my machine. I have ordered a Pioneer DVR 109BK and have received same. It is installed and running. I did not get any software so I presume that Windows XP (home) has the necessary drivers. That means I should be able to read or write CDs and DVDs. I now have a Lite-On CDRW and a Pioneer DVD RW etc. I used an old version of Nero5 that I received bundled in the past. I have a version 5 of Easy CD Creator purchased from retail. I attempted to update (incorporate software update for version 5) and Roxio refused to recognize the "TSID" I had on my box. That frosts me so I'd as soon cut Roxio loose unless they are nearly the only choice. I'd be willing to pay my hard earned brass for a new good burning suite if such exists. Would anyone like to make a recommendation? Of course free would be perfectly acceptable. Last, is there any setup that needs to be done for the Pioneer beyond installing and letting XP find the software? I am always pleased at the help I get here. Thanks!
