I think you're misunderstanding what the problem here is: the data wasn't 
corrupted and so no-longer available... but that the media it was one 
have vanished -- presumably the tapes/disks/cartridges/whatever are still 
readable and still easily accessible... only who knows whose hands 
they're in...
