I've googled around to try to sort this out, but I've ended up more
confused than I started: I noticed that the time was messed up on my
laptop, so I opened the clock, clicked on 'Internet Time' and tried to do
an 'update now'. If I select time.nist.gov I just get a curt "an error
occurred". If I go with time.windows.com, I get this amusing error:

The time sample was rejected because: The peer's stratum is less than
    the host's stratum

What does that mean and what do I do about it?
