I use the recovery cd a few times on a new machine just to bring it back to
factory levels as we play around with things and learn the features and see
what software we want to keep. By fall it will be running longhorn anyway...
but at this point, it's an exercise in seeing how far dell will go to avoid
sending a cd. <g>

I like using the recovery/restore options for systems that have a problem with
viruses... it's much easier than trying to clean it up and teaches a valuable
lesson that some people learn from. :) It's also good for people whose eyes
glaze over at the mere mention of computers... they care more about making it
work than a clean, untouched OS.

Why ? Especially if one can acquire the drivers they need else where. Once
they do then that hidden partition BS can get blown away. FWIW I've done it
many times. I tell the users to keep the CD just in case they need anything
& in the last 5 yrs I've never seen or heard of anyone needing the dumb
recovery cd but I also make sure that they have their drivers backed up
before I leave even if I have to do it myself.
