I have a new laptop and it has XP/Home on it. I didn't want to put XP/pro on it right off [I do have a /pro license I can use for it if/when I need to] and so I thought I'd see what sort of mess MS has made for the /Home folk. And the answer is: it is an *awful* mess. In the 'run as' dropdown, the 'administrator' account doesn't even show up [I haven't tried the command-line runas yet]. As has been mentioned, the nice GUI to the ACLs stuff in the file system isn't there -- UGH: so I'm going to have to learn to mess with the 'CACLS' command-line tool and interpret all those cryptic letters and stuff [e.g., "cacls c:\program files" gets me : Everyone<OI><CI>F. Can it be that the default protections for C: on /Home are 'everyone' [rather than only administrator]? How odd [and depressing!!] I can tell I'm going to have a *LOT* of fun [ahem!] getting this XP/HOme system set up properly.
