No.  But you do have to make sure that it is actually gone.  Then fdisk 
and format it.

Beware of funny things that these programs can do !!!!

Back to my first comment.  I have had to use "Zap" on odd occasions to 
remove funny markers left by partition adjustment tools, for just the 
reasons you quote.
