Hum in stereo equipment indicates a grounding problem. To start, try plugging the computer and stereo equipment into the same grounded outlet (assuming we aren't talking mega monster amplifiers that want their own dedicated circuit). If the amplifier into which the computer signal is connected doesn't have a grounded plug, try reversing that plug in its socket.
As for help on OT topics, you can always get information here: http://www.google.com For example: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=computer+stereo+hum Carl -----Original Message----- From: Windows Home/SOHO [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Brian Rudnicke Sent: Wednesday, December 07, 2005 7:05 PM To: [email protected] Subject: OT: Where to ask about home theater issues? Hi all. I've just moved in to a new home. In my old home, I had a computer in my entertainment center which had a cable that ran from the soundcard to the TAPE input on my Harmon/Kardon amp. It used to play MP3's through there just fine. Now that I've moved, whenever I connect anything computer related to any of the inputs, I get a humming sound comming from the speakers. It goes away when I take away the device. I've tried three different computers, and one with an external USB sound card. I can't get rid of the hum. Where can I present this problem (listservs?) and get help? Can anyone here help troubleshoot this issue?
