When I opened the message, I found that Carl Houseman had written:

Ah!!!!

I can't even get to a command line!~

What it does is sort of "flash" the command space (I call it DOS---I'm an
old DOS horse)......not enough even to recognize and the regular screen
(desktop) comes back up.

Now this points to another similar problem!

This whole thing came about as a result of trying to install some Verizon
software. The software wouldn't install properly. The splash screen
would flash, and then it was gone!

The best those dummies at the Data Tech Support could come up with
was "install SP2 and then try". I'm not a techie, but I had serious doubts
that SP2 would have anything to do with it, although the CDs worked
fine on my Desktop.

So, now it seems that whatever is causing the software not to install
properly (and do a flash at me) is also causing the command prompt
to do the same thing!

I'm scratching my noggin!

I'm going to bed now and see if I can "dream up a solution" <smile>.
Tomorrow is another day.

Thanks for your help, Carl.

Jim
