Varmits that are detected by AVG can get re-installed by other varmits that AVG doesn't detect. Nothing gives 100% detection of all possible varmits, and some percentage aren't detected by anything.
It's important to do scanning and cleaning in safe mode to get the most effective cleanup. Try running an Ewido scan in safe mode (after installing/updating in normal mode). http://www.ewido.net/en/ After that, if things continue to come back, post a new hijackthis report. Problems all FIXED (relating to the subject). Stupid McAfee let in more varmits than you can shake a stick at. Using a number of programs, I got'em all killed, but the BEST program of all was FREE AVG! Three or more cheers for AVG!! FYI, in the windows directory the HOSTS file had a ton of sites listed, one of which was microsoft.com. That is the reason I couldn't access that site. However, it didn't seem to affect the other sites. None of the programs corrected that issue or even identified it. Someone mentioned it and I deleted all those sites and that took care of the problem. HOWEVER: I'm sitting here looking at my laptop and AVG is running. It is finding and listing the same varmits as yesterday which it said it had healed! NOW, I just ran it again and if found no issues. QUESTION: If it healed them yesterday and if AVG Resident Shield was running when I last accessed the internet, why did they show up again this morning? I'm gonna go on line with it and see what happens this time. Thanks to all who answered about this issue and who will comment on the current question.
