Do you just get a blank desktop screen if it reaches that far in the process?
I've had that experience once on my Comcast HSI network and it wouldn't power
off
either. The trick I use is this. If you have any routers or modems pluged in try
powering them down first wait a few seconds then plug them back in. Windows XP
should either stratup full or shutdown if you attepted to shutdown. See if that
helps. They use the scvhost.exe rpc process which could be hanging up the works
and causing the router to hickcup.

Here was me thinking I had loads of replies to my question, but alas they=
were mostly to someone else... Ah well...
If anyone remembers my original problem, the power off didn't work. I'll=
reinstall Windows and see what happens.
