The Performance and Processes tab of Task Manager (taskmgr.exe) are your
friends. Look for low amounts of Available Physical Memory, or large
numbers for Commit Charge Total. Look for Processes using high percentages
of CPU.
Does the hard drive light stay turned on continuously (or nearly so) while
the system is being slow? If so check in Event Viewer under System for
errors. A failing hard disk could cause the behavior you describe.
My PC is not running slow, but following your directions and curious, I looked
for errors under Event Viewer and found that I had 774 errors under the
Applications tab, 2,442 under the System tab and 774 under the Saved
Application Log tab (think these are duplicates of Application Tab, they look
the same). Are these necessary to leave in the corresponding tabs or can they
be deleted safely.
Thank you
