It will trump the "no AD" argument if "they" (whoever the hell
"they" are) do not KNOW the "reserved bandwidth" argument is
bogus. I don't know what the "pecking" order is at the
non-profit. If the IT person has final approval, then forget
it. If you are presenting arguments to a governing board or
something like that (or to the IT person), then the best
tactic would be to disprove the argument the IT person is
presenting, instead of the "no AD or file/printer sharing",
which have ****NOTHING**** to do with QoS. QoS is what she is
basing her argument on... NOT ADs or sharing.
Well, there's a good chance that my wife will make the final
decision, but that's beside the point. I would like to get this
"IT" person to understand.
She and I were talking about ordering a new computer for a staff
member.
She said. "Also, I would order Windows XP Professional. A month
ago I reformatted all the lab computers and loaded XP Pro."
I said, "I disagree. I don't see any reason to spend the extra
$150 for XP Pro.
"Just curious -- how do you justify the expense for the lab
computers? Is there something you teach the students about XP Pro
that isn't available in XP HOME? "(She also tutors in the adult
education program).
And she replied, "Can we agree to disagree about Win XP Pro vs.
Home? I've made my choice based upon what I've read: Open and
stable platform for installing business programs, more
Administrator functions like unlimiting reservable bandwidth, and
more networkable. Possibly, at some point in the future,
Microsoft may no longer support Home while it still supports XP Pro."
Since then, I have been trying to gather complelling evidence
that she is reading the wrong stuff.
I knew nothing about "reservable bandwidth" and my research lead
to QoS and thence to my questions here.
Hope this puts things in perspective.
