Well, I know there is a problem. I'm not even getting 54Mbps performance
on the uplink.

I'm just trying to figure out if the issue is my 4-year old laptop or if all
108Mbps technology has the same uplink throttle.

What I need is a "yes, I've measured upload throughput and it is xxxx with
the following equipment:".

Doesn't matter if the client side interface is PCI NCI or PC Card. Just
that it's 108Mbps technology from any of the consumer-level brands.

Every (yes EVERY) other alternative has already considered and ruled out for
various reasons that would take too long to explain. If the answer is "they
all work that way" then I may not spend the extra $$$ on 108Mbps.

I'm not lookng for on-list discussion. If you have any results, send them
in private mail, and if I get more than 1 opinion that resolves the question
definitively, I'll summarize the results to the list.

Subject: Re: OT: Wireless survey - upload speeds with 108Mbps technology

Wireless networking has only one STANDARD at present and that is 54g (54Mbs)

There are devices out there that will run @ 108Mbs but it isn't a STANDARD.
Now
depending on the quality and compatibility of the units in question the
performance of them can differ.

My laptop is now 18 months old and it was using a Belkin 54g card that will
run
@ 108 and the school techie got a Linksys wireless router for our office but
set
it up for 54Mbs because it IS the STANDARD.

The whole school is being wired for wireless networking and we all are
getting
new laptops for registers, email, reports etc. but it is only going to be
54Mbs
but capable of 108 when it is a STANDARD.

You probably don't have a problem or a real problem - just pretend you don't
know and if it works keep calm if it don't - fix it.
