For some strange reason, OE is using a different port than what
it is configured for. If you've ruled out the AV program, see if you can get more detailed error reporting by following this guide:

Well. Thunderbird is working so I'm not going to spend any more time on this.

I had turned off the firewall and disabled AVG resident virus checker, to no avail.

I re-enabled them both and enabled AVG's incoming email checker.

Looked at Network Connections -- everything seemed ok but I ran "repair connection" anyway.

Installed my account in Thunderbird and it worked! Neighbor's worked too!! Happy neighbor. ;-)

OE still no joy but, heck...
