Durr - you got Symantec Ghost installed that seems to do a regular scan of any partition already imaged -
killed off writing DVD's, even in packed mode - gave delayed write fails because it was reading about 6Gb every hour or so from each partition Symantec recommended solution - uninstall ghost, and then re-install it whenever I wanted to take a new image, followed by an uninstall - and don't use the incremental facility The better solution - semi-permanently kill off the service associated with Ghost - just set it to start at bootup whenever I wanted to do a backup - long delay at startup while it did a check and built a new incremental changes record do the backup, and then set it not to restart with subsequent boots JimB ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim McQueeney" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, September 01, 2006 8:24 PM Subject: Re: Hardware: DVD Burner write failure > James Button wrote: > > > I have dvd-decrypter that I also use to write to DVD's on the system that > > runs Nero > > perhaps you could try something like that - a simple 'image copy' type > > facility and see if that also gives errors > > > > Other possibilities - insufficient power, or horribly fragmented > > workingspace causing problems with the continuous data feed needed for the > > drive(s) > > Even something like a USB, or comms controller taking CPU/bus/memory access > > priority over the writers needs > > > > JimB > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: "Mike Miller" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > To: <[email protected]> > > Sent: Friday, September 01, 2006 6:53 PM > > Subject: Re: Hardware: DVD Burner write failure > > > > Aloha All, > > I discovered, some time ago, that my AV software sometimes causes problems > when trying to write a DVD.
