Not really. 56K modems have a maximum upload speed of
33.6Kbps (V.90) or 48Kbps (V.92). Most ISPs don't support V.92.
AT&T (SBC)'s cheapest DSL ($12.99) has a maximum upload
speed of 256Kbps, or about 7.6 times faster than V.90 dialup.
