Wayne,

Looks as if we have the adware dropper. I went to the NAI page where there is a list of files and registry keys that get added. Can I just go through the list and eliminate all the files and registry changes? Their instructions on removal require having MacAfee installed.

My granddaughter managed to contaminate her computer with Mirar. We run Spy Bot on that machine but it doesn't seem to have caught it probably because she hasn't faithfully updated the list. How should I proceed to get rid of this? I've goggled it and tried one of the manual recommendations for removing registry entries but it's still there.

Which is it ?

A ) %windir%\mirar.exe then see <http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_139613.htm>

or

B ) MirarSetup_876072.exe the see <http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_140651.htm>

One is considered a trojan while the other is considered adware & yes she needs to keep her definitions up to date. Spybot could be set to run on startup & download the updates automagically if they exist by checking the appropriate boxes in the Settings panel.

System start
Automatically run program at system startup.
Fix all problems on program start.
Wait a few minutes until starting the check.
        Close program if everything's O.K.

Web update
Search the web for new versions at each program start.
Download updated include files if available online.

The AV software should be set to automagically update as well. The biggest mistake people make is either turning off the auto update or making the intervals between the updates too far apart.

Good Luck Gramps. ;-)
