XP Home, SP2, all updates current, OE6 version from Help/About given as
"6.00.2900.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)"
From time to time I have been finding, after deleting unread any spam, that
the inbox folder shows one unread mail message, although there are, in fact,
no messages in that folder in that state. If I "Mark all as read", OE ceases
to respond with the msimn.exe process using a variable CPU near to 100%. On
terminating the stalled OE6 app and restarting it, the count is shown
correctly as 0 unread messages - until it happens again.
While the fault occurred I tried copying the folder contents elsewhere and
then deleting the inbox contents one by one, but the incorrect count
remained with an empty folder.
In case inbox.dbx was corrupt in some way, I tried deleting the "empty"
folder inbox.dbx file (which examination in Wordpad showed hundreds of old,
long forgotten, messages still in there, even after compacting) so that OE
recreated a new one. Effect still occurs.
OE operation otherwise normal. Effect never seen for any other folder (many
of which receive new mail via. rules). I don't display unread mail count on
Welcome screen. Deleted folder is emptied on exit.
AdAware, Counterspy, NAV, HiJackThis (all versions & defs current) show no
unexplained or rogue items/processes on PC.
Extensive search of MSKB and other resources has found nothing concerning
this problem.
Help!! Any ideas, folks?
TIA James :-)
