Hi, Wayne --
I uninstalled Tbird altogether, and addons aren't an issue there, because I
never put any on. I did put extensions on Firefox, but I took those all
off. The evil wav file is called mailsound1[1].wav, and it lives in the
temporary Internet files folder. That's where I always find it. I have
removed it several times, but it always comes back. The last time I took it
out was about two weeks ago, and it showed up yesterday after a Windows
update. (I do have ZoneAlarm installed, and it should not be allowing
anything I don't know about to be collecting files.) I've searched for it
on Google, and there's nothing. I do see about 5 listings for ;plain
mailsound.wav, but one is in Japanese and one is in Russian, and the rest
don't make any sense to me. I don't see anything on Startup that it could
be. There is no identifying info in the file properties.
I've taken it out again, and I'll report when it comes back.

It doesn't happen with my FF installations so it must have something to do
with Tbird or an Addon. Did you install any Addons to TB that may have not
gotten uninstalled? Exactly which folder do you find this wav file in? I
know that TB can load a wav file when new mail arrives but the default
sound in TB is a dull ding dong & nothing more. Could you have installed
something else that is making this sound? Have you tried MSConfig from
Run? Have you examined then FF shortcut that you're launching to make sure
that's the only thing that you're launching?
Sorry if some of the questions seem too simple but whenever I'm confronted
with a situation like this I find falling back to the basics helps then I
proceed from there.
