The thermal compound is a very thin film and can be difficult to see. Artic silver is a good replacement. Its expensive, but a 2gm tube will serve for at least 50 to 70 CPU's

I must waste it (a little). I could never get that many...
BUT --- I switched to this from the cheap stuff, and all I can say is
the difference is amazing on machines that tend to be heat sensitive.
