You need to make an initrd image.
run the following command:
mkinitrd --with=reiserfs /boot/initrd-2.2.17-21mdk.img 2.2.17-21mdk
(You can replace the "2.2.17-21mdk" with any valid kernel version -- this is
based on the version as the kernel sees it, not necessarily what the filename
is. To see what you have available, module-wise, just do an ls in
/lib/modules/ -- each one of those directories is named after the kernel
version the modules apply to.)
Then, you need to edit /etc/lilo.conf or /boot/grub/menu.lst (depending on
which boot loader you're using) to make sure the kernel is set to use that
initrd image on bootup. That way, you will have support for reiserfs on a
root/boot filesystem.

As of Win4Lin 1.0 release 4, this is no longer necessary. Win4Lin 2.0 works
just fine on reiserfs partitions.

The devil's in the broad, sweeping generalizations.
