After posting this message I got mail about the
pclinuxonline site and found instructions for patching
but didn't find the compiled kernel. It's a moot
point. I can boot with a floppy but not with any of
the kernels in /boot. The floppy boot isn't allowing
networking to come up.

I've got the floppy boot and I've built enough kernels
to know to keep a good one around. That's why this is
so frustrating. I still have the good kernels around!
They just do the same thing!!
I followed the instructions put here a while ago by
Viktor Lakics. He had some pointers to a site by Ben
Reed.

I am now. Hopefully, I'll be able to recover it.
Thanks,
Rick
