*I have a Diamond Viper 550 (Riva TNT). The distortion happens always when I
shut down Windows, and sometimes when I switch from F8 (fwin) to F9
(X/Gnome). In case of the former, I have to switch to F7 before windows on F8
has been shut down. In case of the latter, I have to switch back to F8 and
back again to F7.
*I can always 'cure' F7 when I resize any window and go to another desktop.
*I use X401 on Redhat 7.0 with all available bugfixes.
*I have enabled 'backing store'
