This is handy. The netraverse guys don't have to argue their case. They can
let us slug it out :-)

I do run mostly linux apps and very little windows stuff. Obviously then the
linux side is more important to me. I am not 100% happy with my current linux
and so I wish to upgrade - indeed I feel I need to upgrade. Unfortunately
that will break win4lin, and it seems I can't even buy win4lin 3 even if I
wanted to.

And my point is if I use the mdk 7.2 problem with win4lin 2 as a guide, then
there are more problems to come in the future - with EVERY linux upgrade,
both major and minor. Before 7.2 I had lock up probs, before that the cyrix
problem...

I already have little use for win apps, especially on this box. I immagine
there are others like me. We need some incentive and confidence to stick with
win4lin. I already use free apps for anything that is available in linux. I
have a couple of win apps I use on rare occasions. If I can't run them on
this box then I walk to another room and use them on a windows box, and
netraverse loses a customer. I'd rather support them, but it would help if I
had some confidence in the future of the product.

I have found using 2 or more computers to sometimes be the easiest way out.
In the early win4lin days the kernel patch had a nasty habit of locking my
linux box solid. With the various kernel problems I have had since v1.0, I
doubt I've been able to use the product more than 4 or 5 months... It would
never work with my old cyrix 686 pc... I was 'forced' into getting a real
pentium :-)

I don't expect everything to be free. Indeed I actually PAID for win4lin. I
am happy with it. I was led to believe it would be compatible with the 2.4
kernel. Maybe I would never have bought it if I knew it would be obsolete
already.

I am perhaps even willing to buy the thing again if I have to, but it doesn't
seem to be available.
