Come on, please... I have always been happy with win4lin. Even v1.0 was
plenty for me. Getting v2.0 going on mdk7.2 was a pain tho, but it happened,
eventually - but I have only had it going maybe three months due the probs
getting it going on mdk 7.2 Finally mdk 8.0 is out and I hope it will solve
many of the problems I have with mdk 7.2 - well only a couple of probs
actually - but moving to mdk 8.0 is certain to cause me probs with win4lin -
even if I stick to the 2.2 kernel...
But since I am using a backported 2.2 kernel to do what I need to now, I
imagine that using a 2.4 kernel will be better for me. So I will be forced to
upgrade to win4lin v3.0...
I am happy to support a company who is doing such a good job, but as you can
imagine, being forced to upgrade in such a way rubs the fur the wrong way on
a linux user, so some griping is inevitable. As this is just a user list,
then I think griping amongst ourselves is quite appropriate, and I am sure
the guys at netraverse might actually like getting the feedback, even when
negative.
Now the problem is that I have a couple of mdk8.0 cd-r's in the mail today
coming from everythinglinux here in Australia... I don't have the net
connection for a download.
So how long before I can be running win4lin on my mdk8.0, linux 2.4 box? Even
if I pay. How do I get v3.0? When do I get v3.0? Is everythinglinux going to
be selling an upgrade? Is there an upgrade price for people who brought v1.0
and later got v2.0 for free (well, $7 for me in Oz)?
By Tuesday next week I will have a box that will no longer run win4lin v2.0.
How long will I be without win4lin.
If it's too long (as it was with the mdk7.2 change) then I may learn to live
without it. And wine runs the main app I need, albeit with a few little bugs.
