puhlease yourself... if you *need* to run Windblows apps then
obviously upgrading your OS is not a good idea at this time. you're
acting as though you have no choice in the matter (of upgrading Linux)
when this is simply not the case.

additionally, if you can get *used* to not using Winblows apps then by
all means why don't you? there are free (speech not beer) options for
many apps and if they suit your purposes why would you pay to run
Winblows? 

we have ~10 Linux boxes used for NMR and crystallography work. while
these are all configured to be dual-boot machines, it's infinitely
more flexible for us to have access to our data (on the Linux side)
when writing a paper or preparing a presentation using MS Office (on
the win4lin side) rather than continually rebooting or, even worse,
using two computers.

define your needs. find apps that are suitable to the task. do not
expect them to be free.
