tosh - the slack packages are .tgz format which a much enhanced version
of tar.gz, and has a readable file list at the front. The package
manager is pkgtool, or more recently upsomethingpkg. The packages can be
derived from rpms by rpm2tgz. Most Slack users are (necessarily!) fluent
in these techniques. They can also read documentation...

Most slackers learn how to compile a kernel before their first birthday
too!
