I've had the 2.0 eval version sitting around for ages, and finialy decided
to give it a try on my Progeny laptop. Sure glad I didn't buy anything,
cause I'm going no where fast.
I had no problem compiling kernel 2.4.5 with the win4lin patch. It's up
and running. The problam was installing the software. I ended up using
alien on the rpm then running /opt/win4lin/postinst_rpm.sh. That produced
the following error:
Failed to load Mmerge.o
See /var/win4lin/log/insmod.log for load failure messages.
Mmerge.o: unresolved symbol mki_install_hook
Warning: kernel-module version mismatch
Mmerge.o was compiled for kernel version 2.2.16
while this kernel is version 2.4.5-win4lin
Well, out of optimism I tried running winsetup. Loading the Windows CD
worked, but booting seemed to fail:

So far this program isn't filling my needs, so no sale. Switching to
something rpm based isn't an option here, I just don't want to. :) So I'm
left with the burning questions:
Even though not officially supported, does win4lin run on Debian
(Progeny 1.0 in my case)
Is there a way to get the eval version running on 2.4.5? Going back to
earlir kernels is more or less out as the system is all ReiserFS, so
anyway I go I'll be building my own kernel.
Ok then, back to figuring out how to fix a dual-boot on 3.7 GB for now.

They must not get baseball sized hail in Redmond.
If they did MS would have realized HailStorm is a
bad name for their new services.
