I much prefer the uncontrolled intersections, especially in my neighborhood, so that we don't have the extra noise and fumes from cars and trucks completely stopping and starting. But I will admit they belong in times past when people didn't expect so much government control of behavior.
 
If, before more of our streets are rebuilt, we could incorporate traffic calming features into residential areas, the consequences of driver negligence at uncontrolled intersections would be much less severe.

Sure, I know the rule about uncontrolled intersections.  But I also know as a relative new-comer to Winona (I've lived here only 14 years) that many people move to Winona or visit our city, coming from cities and towns where all intersections were controlled.  This creates a completely different set of expectations and driving habits than slowing down at each intersection.  ....................
