[Winona Online Democracy]

Several respondents have pointed out problems of Huff: narrowness,
aesthetics, number of pedestrians. One additional problem is that of the
pedestrian behavior, especially from Mark to Sanborn. Day or night,
regardless of street markings or speed of vehicles, people cross anywhere.
Increasing summer enrollments at Winona State have made summer as much a
problem as other seasons. Arguments about self-responsibility for jaywalking
are irrelevant when it is so common to the area, practically a cultural
imperative. Huff as a main thoroughfare for trucks, even for a short time,
seems to be an invitation to accidents. Its selection would be a disaster
waiting to happen.

No route will be devoid of problems, but in my opinion any other would be
better than the Huff route. I am anxious to see what rationale the city
staff used in choosing Huff over other alternatives, such as those mentioned
by Randy Schenkat , Paul Double, and Steve McBurney.
