Love the response to this topic!

Unfortunatley, I don't have any constructive ideas about the re-route, but I do have a response to something Bob said about how the truck traffic is "working" on Sarnia to Main St. As a member of that residential neighborhood whose house borders Sarnia St., I must say that I don't believe it is working. Those trucks fly down the street in a 30 mile per hour zone! In addition, there are always several serious accidents each year involving trucks at the intersection of Sarnia and Main, as the drivers turn right onto Main. Sometimes the truck driver doesn't correctly estimate the space needed to turn. Sometimes drivers in cars turning right do not realize that trucks to the left of them are also turning right. This is a hazardous situation in my opinion based upon what I have seen.

I've always wondered why the trucks are not allowed to follow Mankato to Broadway, turn left there, and then proceed down Broadway. I understand that they follow Highway 43, but Mankato is wider; a left onto Broadway is easier than a right from Sarnia to Main; Broadway is, in fact, broader than Sarnia; and you have nowhere near the pedestrian traffic that Main St. has.

I also find that many drivers use the bicycle lanes to pass on the right, which is extremely risky in a residential neighborhood with children. Isn't it illegal to pass on the right?

I'm happy that we will be getting some much needed overpasses and improvements, but traffic is a tricky issue. I'm trying to drive less and walk and cycle more. Would anyone like to join me in that resolve?
