I will admit some blatant self interest here as I live in the first block west of Huff Street, but I honestly cannot see how Huff could handle the addtional traffic. It's more narrow than Mankato, with a lot of foot traffic, even in the summer. Since it runs between the East and West Lakes, Huff serves as a major conduit to Lake Park for residents inside the city as well as serving as a (rather striking) gateway into our city. How will this work for attracting visitors during prime tourist season?

Eric...

You didn't come out and say this outright, but I'm presuming that your
engineers say Mankato Avenue can't take the additional traffic...otherwise I
can't imagine the Huff Street proposal for even the short term detour.

Can you or the city engineer talk about whether or not a Mankato
Avenue-Second Street detour would work for summer '06?
