Milton Friedman argued 30 + years ago that
government was horribly inefficient in almost all of their endeavors. The
WORST inefficiency was found (not surprisingly) to be at the federal government
level where pork, over-spending and mismanagement of Federal tax
dollars have reached epidemic proportions. As one follows the
government chain downward through the state, county, city and township levels,
accountability is higher and efficiency (although still lousy compared to the
private sector) is much better. To prove the point, check the budget %
increase of those respective governmental bodies for the past 20 years or
so and see for yourself.
