[Winona Online Democracy]
Even though I was disappointed that Mr.
Durand did not keep his word to me and follow through on his promise to respond
to questions I'd asked him privately in writing weeks before the referendum, I
still voted for the approval of 2/3 the questions. As many of you may be
aware, this is the first time I have supported a referendum for 861. It is
also the first time I have not actively opposed one. Unfortunately, it now
appears that my silence and support may have been premature.
The more things change in ISD 861, the
more they stay the same?

Well said Ruth.
The teachers and staff in the District were
wondering the same things yesterday!
It seemed very clear based on the District's
mailings, web site, and other information what would be restored if Question
One passed.
Is there now a problem or has the School Board
and Supt. changed their minds?

I hope the school board members and Mr Durand are
also reading this. What does the article in today's paper mean.
What do you mean by a financial audit? I thought we were promised if
question one passed that a whole list of promised programs would be put back
in place. Now all we are promised is a full day of kindergarten.
When I and many others talked to people about voting Yes, we also told them
that the list of programs that were listed would be put back. It
always sounded like the auditor and Mr Seeley had all these things figured out
before the election. Have we been lied to? I don't expect that
everything will be back in place tomorrow, but after sitting at so many school
board meetings and hearing and believing that the board would tell us we would
be lowering class size, add more challenge programs, get the arts back etc.
and now you don't know what is going to happen. I hope people will call their
board members to get some of the old programs back before we add any new
programs. I believe by moving most of the polling places, we lost more
people's votes and lost more money then it would have cost to staff the other
places. You know people were mad at the changes when they rent a
bus to go vote no. Ruth Marg
