[Winona Online Democracy]

Thank you Tania and all. At the last Rollingtone site Base meeting, we asked
that the board do just what you suggested. The list of items to come will
take time, but it will be in the board's best interest to keep us informed
and get our input when changes are made.
As for using the Rollingstone School, I agree with Mr. Hittner that it
would be economically not feasible. There is available technology but as
for room , we would have to educate the students elsewhere. It would make
common sense to move administration to Central or Madison as fewer students
would be displaced at a shorter distance to WK or Jefferson.
Also, I'm a bit tired of the sour grapes turning into "whine" sic. about
the outcome of the referendum due to students voting. They have just a much
right to vote as any other citizen and I really begin to wonder about a
society where only land owners would be allowed to vote. Sounds a bit feudal
to me.
As for questions 2 and 3, the board can address facilities by bonding for
improvements. Yes, it is for a longer time period and interest will be a
cost. With interest rates where they are now, the board should consider
this strategy as representatives of those that elected them. That is how
Cities, States and Counties get their projects done and was mentioned at the
Forums before the referendum.
As for technology, many organizations like PTA, Lions, Jaycees,
foundations and business can step in here and donate for technology.
Elementary PTAs have been very generous with computers, etc. and charitable
gambling groups are always looking for places to donate their funds. All we
need to do is ask.

Subject: [Winona] a progress checklist

[Winona Online Democracy]

I'd like to make a recommendation to the Board regarding regaining community
trust. I believe the step towards progress would be inexpensive (bonus),
quick, and effective:

As the funds begin coming in over the years and the board makes positive
decisions based on the funds' wherabouts, I recommend these decisions be put
online, on the WAPS website.
While marketing for the referendum, there was a checklist of items we would
lose or programs that would be affected if the referendum did not pass. I
believe it would be in the best interest of the district to use that as a
public checklist of sorts. Post it online, and check off when progress is
made.

That checklist will help for two reasons:
1) It will keep people on both sides honest.
2) It will make the next referendum a lot easier to sell. The public will
recognize how the money was used and be more willing to reinvest.

Just my two cents for whatever it's worth.

Tania M. Schmidt
