I can say that Ruth's letter piqued my curiosity
about what was in the Daily News. This is what I found that I thought was
relevant:
Were not going to just jump into reinstating
programs, Durand said. Were going to take our time to be
thoughtful.
Here's another spin for you all to
consider:
The Board has decided to re-instate all-day
kindergarten in January before they see any fruit from the passage of the
referendum. Now that's a sign of good faith that they mean what they've told
us!
Ruth even said that she didn't "expect that
everything will be back in place tomorrow." Clearly she's not
understanding the reasoning behind the audit and why it is a factor in
decision-making at this point. Maybe someone can help us to clarify
this.
Let's not jump to mistrust and thinking that we're
"being lied to." Rather, can we keep in mind that none of the school board
members does this job with the intent of breaking the public trust? I
don't think Mr. Durand would do himself any good to have deception as his goal
and I am confident it is not.
Can't we enjoy the hope that the passage of
question #1 brings for little while before we brace ourselves for the next
big conflict to resolve?
I agree with Ruth that it is important to call
school board members to tell them what you think and to hear what they are
thinking about the recommendation to wait for the audit. I trust it has much
more to do with fiscal responsibility than with misleading the
public.

Well said Ruth.
The teachers and staff in the District were
wondering the same things yesterday!
It seemed very clear based on the District's
mailings, web site, and other information what would be restored if Question
One passed.
Is there now a problem or has the School Board
and Supt. changed their minds?

I hope the school board members and Mr Durand are
also reading this. What does the article in today's paper mean.
What do you mean by a financial audit? I thought we were promised if
question one passed that a whole list of promised programs would be put back
in place. Now all we are promised is a full day of kindergarten.
When I and many others talked to people about voting Yes, we also told them
that the list of programs that were listed would be put back. It
always sounded like the auditor and Mr Seeley had all these things figured out
before the election. Have we been lied to? I don't expect that
everything will be back in place tomorrow, but after sitting at so many school
board meetings and hearing and believing that the board would tell us we would
be lowering class size, add more challenge programs, get the arts back etc.
and now you don't know what is going to happen. I hope people will call their
board members to get some of the old programs back before we add any new
programs. I believe by moving most of the polling places, we lost more
people's votes and lost more money then it would have cost to staff the other
places. You know people were mad at the changes when they rent a
bus to go vote no. Ruth Marg
