A slightly related question…

Has anyone implemented any specific firewall rules for consoles & the ilk, or
do you just treat them like any other authorized client?

We also have a dedicated SSID for non-802.1x clients - WPA protected w/ MAC
Registration. Note: We also use Aruba w/ ClearPass.

In one of our campuses, we’ve implemented a policy change w/ ClearPass that
says if the device is profiled as either a “Game Console” or “Home Audio/Video
Device”, bypass MAC Registration checks & place them in a different VLAN from
everyone else. Users will still need to know the Pre Shared Key in order to
associate to the network, but we’ve bypassed the MAC Registration checks for
them, making it a little bit easier for their device to get on-line.

Wondering if anyone has any specific firewall rules to secure the network
against DDoS or other nefarious acts? We’re already denying telnet & ssh, like
to know if anyone has any best practices regarding securing a specific Game
Console / Home A\V network.

TIA,

This leads me to ask - doesn't the Xbox and PS4 have wired ports? Why put
all that refresh rate traffic on wireless? Why not "strongly suggest" they
connect it to a wired port, leaving wireless for truly mobile devices (laptops,
Macbook Air, phones, pads, etc.)? If it has a permanent power brick, plug it
in.

    Brandon,
Many games and other devices don’t support 802.1x in case that was the
network they were trying to connect to. We created an SSID that allows for
mac address authentication. We allow student to register the mac address
of their non 802.1x complaint devices and connect to our SSID that supports mac
addresses (open network). We have no problems that I am aware of with PS4
    stations.
Note: We use Aruba with Clearpass.

We have been seeing issues where PS4's on campus will not connect to our
Aerohive wireless devices properly. Other devices such as Xbox One are working
fine, it seems to be isolated to PS4 devices. We are beginning to wonder if
this is an issue with Enterprise wireless AP's and I was curious, before we
spend more time digging, if others are experiencing issues with
PS4 on their campus. (Apologies for the shoddy image quality)
