Having been through a fire myself, if the equipment wasn't that expensive, just let it go. Let them know you feel for their loss and ask them if there is anything you can do to help. The good will it generates is worth more than the money you'll get.
Also, most contracts have a clause that says if this type of event happens, the contract is void and only the equipment needs to be reimbursed.
