I was an ASP programmer since 1997. I started with Tango in October.

  • Tango is much faster to develop because the code is more compact and commands are specifically tailored toward web development, where ASP is built on Visual Basic, which is a general language. Some things are very awkward to do in ASP
  • Tango has infinitely better array handling, allowing you to manipulate recordsets much easier than usign ADO.
  • When you look at a Tango application you can easily trace through it by following the program tree structure, whereas having a folder full of ASP files leave the structure of the application a complete mystery.
  • Tango allows you to migrate to different DB platforms and different web server withough having to rebuild the code. This allow you to deploy to Oraqcle/SQL Server or MySQL on Windows, Mac or Linux servers.
  • Tango can be compiled as a Java application using JTransit and deployed on any J2EE server.
  • The tango Snippit interface allows you to drag and drop common code elements, increasing speed and reducing typos.
  • When Microsoft decidedes to pull another 180 degree turn you aren't stuck buying a new operating system, database server and development suite just to maintain compatibility.
  • Tango allows you to drag and drop chunks of code from one application to another without much hassle.
I program may times faster in Tango than I do in ASP (compare my 8 months experience with Tango vs my 5 years of ASP). I am able to do things in Tango that just cannot be done is ASP -- such as filter a recordset in one line of code. Tell them to give it a try for a week and see for themselves.

Subject: Witango-Talk: Tango / ASP Death Match.

A company I developed a extensive Tango application for got sucked up by another company that has 5+ ASP programmers on staff.  Surprise, surprise, they want to convert it all to ASP!  Their main argument: 1. Tango is not as scalable 2. Tango talent is hard to come by. 3. They know ASP. 4. They want one platform.

I need ammunition!  War stories, testimonials, a crystal ball, whatever.

Who's going to land the first punch?
