Hello Lance,   Typically I don't reply that often to these types of posts. However, you can't compare PhP to WiTango. I looked at PhP and even developed some apps with PhP. Basically, what I can develop with WiTango will take a PhP progammer 3 to 4 times longer. Plus, where do you go for support? Plus, try writing an app in PhP that supports COM objects or Java beans! Oh yeah, writing a session ID is a complete nightmare if you do it from scratch. It's built in with WiTango. Macromedia decided to go with Cold Fusion. So, looking at good business sense, Macromedia won't advertise or support a cometitive product. Plus, Witango is better, runs on more platforms, and is cheaper.   As far as the cost goes, I firmly believe you get what you pay for. Pay $2159.00 for the app server and develop an app in a month, or use PhP and develop the app in 3 months. 2 months of development is more than $2159.00.   As far as marketing goes, With Enterprises has had to jump through alot of hurdles to get the product to where it is today. Let's face it, Pervasive really left Tango out to dry! Tango had no home or support for over a year. At least if Pervasive kept business as usual until With Enterprises came along, it would have been much easier for With Enterprises. I personally think the product should have been renamed to "Lazarus", but that's just my opinion.   In a nut shell Lance, PhP is a good technology. Hundreds of thousands of people use it! Just like millions of people eat at Mc Donalds! It doesn't mean the food's the greatest, but it's cheap and popular. Personally, I like to eat at the Outback Steakhouse! Better food and service!   Rick Sanders Web Energy   hi list,   i have not been posting in this list for close to 2 years. ever since pervasive screwed tango up and i have switched to php as my primary development platform. however, i was having a talk with another friend of mine couple of days ago. that talk made me write to this list.   once upon a time, i could find tango listed as one of the development environment in macromedia site. but not anymore. you probably would say "who cares if witango is listed in macromedia", but think about it. if it gets back to that list, it will definitely raise some eyebrows.   frankly speaking, i still find that there is no ide out there in the web application development world that can beat witango studio. we were wondering what could make witango a big success like php.   the common thought that we had was, if only the witango application server is distributed freely. this will definitely help in improving the adoption rate of witango. with enterprise could simply earn from selling their studio application and selling support services. they could even develop one in java and this will be very appealing to the general public. i mean, look at zend. they are a big success. why is that so? i believe their model is worth a look at.   honestly speaking, the app. server is so costly that with the current world economy in distress, recommending it to any possible client is almost close to impossible.   just a thought from an old lover of tango (witango).   cheers, lance ________________________________________________________________________ TO UNSUBSCRIBE: Go to http://www.witango.com/maillist.taf ________________________________________________________________________ TO UNSUBSCRIBE: Go to http://www.witango.com/maillist.taf
