thank you for replying to my post.
personally, i have developed in tango for couple of
years before the switch. and i don't really find the big difference in
development time. probably 1.5 to 2 times longer if we compare the two. often,
it brings down to how familiar you are with the language/tool you use. i believe
you develop your own tcf files for future use. likewise, i develop my own
objects in php so that it will take shorter time in future development.
what really make witango a better product is the
ide. it's so damn good!
btw, writing session id in php ain't that tough in
php. but i must admit, php lacks the flexibility that witango is providing when
it comes to variable scopes.
as for macromedia, they have a field that
requests on what server application platform do you use when you signup(?). asp,
jsp, cfm, etc. are all listed in there. i believe this field is meant for data
collection. (wi)tango used to be listed in there.
as for cost, i believe they (with ent.) could still
get a big bite on selling services, supports, ide even if they give the app.
server for free. like you mentioned, mcdonalds food ain't that great. but its
cheap and popular. they provide good services too. a company
(pvsw?) that don't have good crm will dig its path towards
failure.
remember the good old syquest and iomega? the
former offers far superior products to iomega when it comes to external storage.
but what cost its downfall?
in fact, given a chance, i would jump back to
witango wagon. i still have passion in it. but when it comes to reality, i
wouldn't recommend it to anyone in my country. simply because every
company will have this question in mind. will it be vapourware in years to come?
or will it be staying and growing strong? try asking around and often i get the
response "huh? what's witango?". to many, witango is just another proprietary
language.
i apologise if this thread is taking away your
precious development time.
