Witango-Talk: small CMS

has anyone created a tiny CMS? I'll need a place to park a few  
categories of articles, where they were published, etc., and then  
dynamically populate web pages with links. I see substantial packaged  
programs that are overkill for what I need. Looking for basics or at  
least the basic concepts so I can make sure not to get myself into a  
corner.
