Hey Scott, Well, I've been running Vista Ultimate for a few months now. All in all I think it is better than XP.
However, there are still quite a few things that are a concern: - Connecting to a network printer crashes the print spooler service - It nags you every time you open a tool in the Administrative options (Even if you're logged in as the administrator) - The interface does make switching between screens slower than XP. I have a 256MB NVIDIA card with GPU - Sometimes when accessing files on another computer through the network the connection is dropped suddenly, or it hangs. - I have a 2.8ghz P-IV with 1GB of RAM, and I am seriously considering getting another GB. - To use all the features of Vista, it is a resource hog. You need a very powerful computer to be able to work well with Vista. - Windows Mobile device center is still only a beta release which causes issues when Syncing to a Pocket PC or mobile device. - Lots of apps are not backward-compatible BUT... WiTango works great with Vista! Aside from that: - Multimedia is much, much better. - Security is better from a user perspective. - System restore actually works! - Interface is very slick, and the Aero flip (Hold the Windows key and hit the tab key) is very neat. - Nice integration with Office 2007 - Easier to find things, and much easier to use than XP for a first-time computer user. - The dynamic start menu and thumbnail preview of what's in the window when putting your mouse over a minimized item in the task bar is awesome too! - Integration with SQL server 2005 client is seamless too! - I do like it better than XP. Hi Rick, What do you think of Vista? I finally bought an iMac a couple months ago for browser testing, and think it's very cool. But since installing Vista Ultimate edition on my main PC a week ago, and I have to say from a general usability point of view there is some features in Vista that might surpass Mac OSX. And that Aero interface is so very slick. What's your base score? Mine is 5.3 And no I'm not running Witango with it.
