Wayne,
As we went through the OS X development cycle, we determined that we only really needed to support 10.6 on Intel hardware. Customers and the community in general were pretty clear in saying that PowerPC technology was either on the way out or already gone. This made our job much easier, which turned out to be helpful since the OS X build had so many headaches. When I did my research on bitness, I found that only a couple of early (2006-era) Minis and laptops had Intel “Core” CPUs which did not support 64-bit and so I hoped that Witango 6 wouldn’t be exposed to this hardware. Of course we did attempt to build the Apache 2.2 module in 32-bit, but there is a bug in the Apache software, and it gave us some problems compiling. I will put it back on the development list and get the 32-bit Apache module out ASAP. It will be part of the 6.0.7 release and I’ll ship it to you before then so that you can get back to using Witango. Sorry for the inconvenience. It was originally a 1.83Ghz Core Duo but I upgraded the processor to a 2Ghz unit from a dead laptop. I reinstalled OSX Leopard/Snow Leopard and confirmed that Apache was running. I then installed Witango and found that Apache was no running. I then uninstalled Witango using the Uninstall app and restarted Apache in verbose mode (httpd -V). It reports Architecture: 32 bit. There were a few older Mac Mini's that could run 10.6, but were not 64-bit capable CPUs. As such, you may be running Apache in 32-bit, but the Apache module that we ship with Witango 6 is for 64-bit installations. If this is the case, Apache will likely crash, although I don't know that for sure. Let me know if your Apache is indeed 32-bit and I'll go back and look at building a 32-bit module. You can also test by temporarily not installing the Witango module. To do this, open the folder /private/etc/apache2/other - you should find the file "witango.conf" - if you change the extension it won't load, so edit it to "witango.off" and restart. If the Witango module is interfering with your Apache, this should prove it. _____ To unsubscribe from this list, please send an email to [email protected] with "unsubscribe witango-talk" in the body. _____ To unsubscribe from this list, please send an email to [email protected] with "unsubscribe witango-talk" in the body. _____ To unsubscribe from this list, please send an email to [email protected] with "unsubscribe witango-talk" in the body. ---------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this list, please send an email to [email protected] with "unsubscribe witango-talk" in the body.
