Bill, thanks for the fast reply. First answer is I did it this way because I 
read it on the Flex Forums as the way to do it because, while the Rx bandwidth 
can be increased to 5k or more, the Tx band is limited to 3k or thereabouts. 
But you had me worried enough to go and test if this is true or not, so I tried 
to transmit JT9 on 4kHz and failed. It falls off at about 3kHz.  (The fact that 
the bandwidth selector is on the Receive submenu and there is no corresponding 
selection on the Tx menus so probably a clue here.)  I guess it should  be 
possible using the I/Q inputs but as far as I am aware that is not possible 
with WSJT-X.
