While it is not often the single tone facility is a useful feature to retain
as we also use ST messages such as 2000 for QRT when working portable away
from the internet. And when testing the bandpasses of transmitters we run
over the range of ST tones from a few hundred Hz to over 3 KHz. In my
experience it is very rare for people to get confused by accidentally typing
in an @ symbol and in any case the message comes up Blue to warn you that
you have changed to ST messaging.

Yes it would but the standard generated ones will still work. You can always
generate fixed tones with the Tx frequency spinner and the "Tune"
button.

How often do you need to generate single tone messages other than at 1000,
1500 and 1750 Hz?
